Ang earth leakage circuit breaker ay ginagamit bilang
proteksyon ng motor o ng tao sa residual current.
Pag nagkakaroon ng unbalance current sa hot wire at
sa neutral wire (balance fault), magtritrip ang ELCB para madeenergize agad ang electrical circuit.
Maaari kasing tumalon o nagleak ang kuryente sa
ground o sa ibang eletrical circuit na pwedeng makasanhi ng eletricution o sunog.
Take note na ang kuryente ay nasa isang loop lang.
Ang hot wire ay naghahatid ng kuryente sa load
samantalang ang neutral ay nagdadala ng return current na sya ring parehong pumapasok
sa load. INPUT CURRENT = OUTPUT CURRENT principle. Ang ELCB ngayon ang
magbabantay sa balanse ng line side at neutral.
An insulation deterioration due to aging of regular insulation of equipments or wiring can
cause low value regular leakage current (of the range of milliamps to few amps) which
cannot be detected by over current relay or earth fault relay. But these currents can
cause fatal accidents resulting to burning to loss of life to people working around and
also results in regular energy loss. Pwede ding faulty wiring o maling paggamit ng device
kaya nagkakaroon ng EARTH LEAKAGE o RESIDUAL CURRENT.
Ang ELCB ay tinatawag ding risidual current circuit protetion. =)
